Coreless current sensor ICs by AKM


Asahi Kasei Microdevices (AKM) has developed its Currentier series of advanced current sensors based on its highly sensitive compound semiconductor technology, which combines Hall elements with advanced package design and analog circuit technologies. The name “Currentier” is a combination of ‘current’ and “frontier” because its outstanding performance makes it a leading product in the field of current sensors. 


Currentier is an open-type magnetic current sensor with an integrated, highly sensitive Hall element that can detect both direct and alternating currents fast and with high accuracy. Despite its compact size, it produces little heat and has high insulation. Currentiers are safe, high-performance products available in many models and suitable for current detection in a wide range of applications designed to solve problems. 


Currentier utilizes the characteristics of AKM's compound semiconductor hall elements in the following two ways:
 

  • High Sensitivity Hall Element → Low-heat generation package → Supports large current
  • High sensitivity hall element → Wide signal bandwidth → Fast response

Representative of the Currentier Series: CZ3A Series

Clearance, creepage distance ≧ 8.0 mm – 3.3V output, high-accuracy coreless current sensor ICs supporting 50 Arms

  • The CZ3A series of coreless current sensor ICs has creepage and clearance distances of 8 mm or more, generates less heat, and is accurate.
  • The CZ37 series and CZ3A series have the same package profile and support 5V and 3V outputs, respectively.
  • The CZ3A series supports 3V output, making it ideal for use with 3V microcontrollers, which have grown in popularity in recent years.
  • The CZ3A series has built-in dual overcurrent detection with adjustable thresholds. This provides comprehensive control freedom, such as making it possible to use one line for overcurrent detection and the other to perform control using control mode.

  • The CZ37 series of coreless current sensor ICs has creepage and clearance distances of 8 mm or more, generates less heat, and is ultra-accurate.
  • The CZ37 series and CZ3A series have the same package profile and support 5V and 3V outputs, respectively.
  • The CZ37 series supports 5V output, making it ideal for products with severe transmission noise.
  • The product lineup includes a double-pole detection model (CZ370x) that can be used for many applications, such as phase current detection for AC motors and general-purpose inverters, as well as a single-pole detection model (CZ372x) that can be used for DC detection of power conditioners for photovoltaic systems.

When measuring current flowing in one direction, a higher signal-to-noise ratio can be achieved compared to the bipolar detection type.
