Smart ROBOTICS WITH KI, IOT AND EDGE COMPUTING

While (mobile) robots in industrial environments were originally introduced to perform mechanical, repetitive tasks that require programming but no intelligence, new technological developments such as AI, IoT, and Edge Computing allow for improved adaptation and advanced deep learning abilities. As a result, autonomous mobile robots (AMR) can perform more complex tasks such as navigation, object detection and recognition, item sorting, or product quality assessment with enhanced versatility, productivity, reliability, efficiency, safety, and precision.

Detection technologies such as lidar, cameras, or sensors enable the real-time collection of data from surroundings which can then be processed and analyzed by AI algorithms for the robot’s intelligent and autonomous response to the environment and respective task performance.  

Especially industrial environments such as factories, warehouses, assembly lines, or logistics halls, require navigation and path-planning capabilities suitable for large, dynamic, and unpredictable environments. In addition, to assembly or transportation tasks, mobile robotics in the form of either automated guided vehicles (AGV) or drones can improve stock management and inventory monitoring in warehouses by performing item identification, counting, or picking.
